"Empowering people with disabilities to live independently in our community."

Overview

Rollin’ on the River is a fundraising and community awareness event organized by and benefiting Advocates for Access. People with or without a disability can participate in this event to be held along the beautiful RiverWalk, near Peoria’s RiverPlex. The Wheel-A-Thon scheduled to be held rain or shine on October 9, 2010 will celebrate disability awareness month.

Team captains organize teams of 2-7 wheelers/walkers, who work together to raise funds and then share a wheelchair (provided) to navigate a 1-mile course. Teams will compete against other teams for prizes and a “bragging rights” plaque. Melody said, “Working together as a team is fun, builds friendly competition, allows you to promote the name of your business or organization, demonstrates enthusiasm, spirit and passion for the cause, and allows you to enjoy a beautiful fall morning with friends and family, ending with a picnic lunch and brief awards ceremony.”

If you are interested in becoming a team captain, being assigned to a team, or in participating individually, please contact Tiffany at 309.682.3500 for details. Registration fees are $15 per person, which includes a t-shirt and free picnic lunch. There will also be a wheelchair float parade that individuals or teams can enter.
